. there are so many ways to evade that. you had that for ten years when dianne feinstein passed that ban in '94, it was on the books. columbine occurred right in the middle of it. it didn't make any difference. i know everyone -- this town wants to argue about gun control. i don't think it's what will work. what will work is this, i'll tell you this -- >> this is a matter of logic. anybody watching this is going to say i just heard mr. lapierre say the standard is we should try anything that might reduce the violence and you're telling me it's not a matter of common sense that you if you don't have an ability to shoot off 30 rounds without reloading that just possibly you could reduce the loss of life, that adam lanza may not have been able to shoot as many kids if he didn't have as much ammunition? >> i don't buy your argument. there are so many different ways he could done it, endless amount of ways a monster -- >> a federal judge wrote in the los angeles times "bystanders got to tucson shooter jared loughner and subdued him only after he emptied one 31-round magazine and was trying to load a

president obama supports a ban on assault weapons proposed by california democratic senator dianne feinstein. getting it through congress quickly is highly unlikely, but the mere mention of a ban is enough to send sales soaring. and it's not just guns. brownell's, the world's largest firearm supplier, said it morently sold more than three- and-a-half years worth of a.r.- ag magazines in three days. even before newtown, sales of guns and ammunition this year were surging. chb.i. background checks of intential gun buyers were up 31% 20 november 2012 over 2011. in a report issued prior to newtown, the market research rack ibis world, which tracks the gun industry, found gun venthusiasts are working dermselves into a frenzy over what another four years under the obama administration may hold for gun laws." an instructor at nova firearms re falls church, virginia, where hey nearly sold out of a.r.-15s and high-capacity magazines after newtown. so, ironically, this shooting is a.spiring more people to buy this gun, the a.r.-15, and these mgh-round magazines. >> if i could, i would give ynator fein

't worked. dianne feinstein had her ban and columbine occurred. >> a moment ago you were talking about guns in school, and you said something that made me think that that's something you would agree w.where do you stand on that? >> i don't agree with it. i think the republicans talk about it now. they are going to use that as a way to get around the issue, and the issue is high capacity magazines, and -- and assault weapons. i think david gregory did a magnificent job with the vice president of the nra this morning, and when he says -- he said that he doesn't think the magazine issue has anything to do with it, well, it does. lanza got the guns that his mother had in the house, and he would have taken whatever guns she, and if he had a gun without a high capacity magazine that couldn't shoot more than ten shots, that's all the shots he would have gotten off. he didn't go to the stove and pick his arsenal. he took what his mother gave him. if you had less of those weapons around you'd have more children alive. no matter what mr. lapierre said some of those children died because of the magazi

in america. but there is going to be a bill we know senator dianne feinstein is going to introduce a bill on the first day of the new congress. why shouldn't more folks get behind that, including some republicans? because i'd like to remind you of one thing. justice scalia said in the heller decision, like most rights the second amendment is not unlighted. -- not unlimited. he said, it is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever for whatever purpose. from the high priest of the supreme court of conservatism himself. why doesn't that create some room for current conservatives like ronald reagan did in 1994 to back an assault weapons ban? >> the issue is, are you going to be punishing law-abiding gun owners with these kind of regulations? there are plenty of people who own these guns who have a right to own these guns who are not part of the problem. are you punishing those people who have a right to own those guns because there are crazies out there that you are not affecting with an assault guns weapon? there is nothing about this that touches mental he
